Government Grant Plan for Hearing Aids
On June 18, 2019, the Council of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Health, Mr. Constantine Ioannou, to revise the Hearing Aid Subsidy Plan in a manner consistent with current hearing aid prices and hearing aid lifespan.
For pensioners (over 65 years old), the plan specifies:
- A grant of up to €350 for the purchase of hearing aids every five years.
By birth, the plan determines:
- A grant of up to €1,000 per hearing aid every four years until the age of 18 for children who are congenitally deaf or who develop deafness by the age of 10
- A grant of up to €750 per hearing aid every five years for adults who are congenitally deaf or whose deafness developed by the age of 10
- A grant of up to €340 per hearing aid is available for adults with practical deafness for whom there is no benefit for speech development and who can use a superpower rear-facing hearing aid that helps with partial perception of environmental sounds rather than speech-communication perception. These headsets function mainly as warning aids for safety reasons
In cases of beneficiary patients with specialized problems, the Minister of Health will decide, based on the recommendation of competent services, the method and amount of the subsidy, depending on the case.
